Effects of the War
Charlie Haughey was 24 years old when he got drafted into the US Army. He became a photographer and took nearly 2,000 pictures during his time in Vietnam. After
he returned home in 1969 he put them away and never looked at them until 45 years later. It was really difficult for Haughey and he could not sleep for three days after seeing these images. He is trying to deal with all the emotions and is setting up a gallery so people can see the pictures he took. |
Another soldier in the Vietnam War was Johnas Freeman who enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1964 to protect America from Communism. Even though he went through hard times because of the war, Freeman said he has no regrets because he grew up in this 13 month in Vietnam. When he came back he felt like people would not care about him and look at him like the enemy because they did not support the war. He went through 90 days of depression where he tried to find himself and deal with the feelings from the war. He was one of the veterans that tried to find their relief in alcohol.
